Smithsonian Institute exhibit @ City of Raleigh Museum: Influence of Maharashtra on Bollywood 2017
Thank you for everyone who showed interest or attended this event! We were completely FULL again for this March 11th dance workshop! Please contact the Museum for our last of our Beyond Bollywood series on April 9
At the Smithsonian exhibit touring the nation and now showing at the City of Raleigh Museum, “Beyond Bollywood exhibit”, the Indigo Dance Evolution Academy took the audience to Bollywood and Beyond! With the focus of the first of its second workshop being on festivals & folk dances from Maharashtra India, a fun time was had by all as the audience learned hands-on about the many festivals, dances, music & clothing from this urban education state where all Bollywood films studios are also born, showing the deep historic link to Bollywood cinema.
Students of the academy as well as performers along with Priya regaled the audiences with not just Bollywood tracks on the latest chartbusters, but also famous folk native dances such as the Koli (fisherfolk) dance from the coastal region, the Lavni (stage folkloric dance) and then showed how dance in Indian historic films such as Bajirao Mastani (“Pinga”) was influenced by Maharashtra’s unique traditions. Later, audiences had a great time learning both the Fisher-folk dance as well as the Lezim sticks to “Zingat” song from a regional movie from this 2nd most populous region of India.
Please join us for our LAST dance workshop on April 9 from 1-3 pm with its focus on Another surprise state. Hurry – before its too late and the place is full again:)!
