Smithsonian Institute exhibit @City of Raleigh Museum: Influence of Punjab on Bollywood 2017
As part of the Smithsonian Institute’s nation-wide traveling expo, ‘Beyond Bollywood”, students and faculty of the Indigo Dance Evolution Academy hosted a “Focus on Punjab” through a energetic demo-workshop, the last of their series on “Regions of India as seen through Bollywood”
Visitors and participants all enjoyed the informative session on Punjab folk, food, music & dance! Indigo teen & adult students performed several Bollywood numbers influenced by Punjabi music and then took the audience deeper into Punjab with authentic Bhangra dances. Indigo’s little kids also not left behind, showed what it was to be a sporting champ from the “granary state of India”. The session ended on a high note with all the audience jumping in to try the Bhangra! — at City of Raleigh Museum. Nearly 15,000 people attended the exhibit over the 3 months of the 1st quarter and with this successful finale, it marked another feather in the cap for the Museum’s prolific activities centered around the diverse needs of the communities in the region.
